Seed of Faith Christian Fellowship
“The Journey”
After much prayer and fasting the Lord spoke to Reverend Dr. Ralph Howard and gave the commission to organize a church for the people of God. This was to be a place of worship and a place of refuge and strength for all who seek to live life God’s way and commit to fulfill their promise of purpose in Christ Jesus. Out of the ashes of controversy and disappointments, out of desires and determination, would come a church that would further the Kingdom of God through ministry and education.
A meeting to organize the church took place on May 10, 2006 at the home of Reverend Ralph Howard and his wife Deborah Howard in 5018 Toyon Way, Antioch California. There were twenty people in attendance. Reverend Howard discussed his vision for the church and for the need to build the Kingdom of God. Reverend Howard proposed that we organize a non-denominational church and that the church be called Seed of Faith Christian Center. After discussion it was decided that the church would be named Seed of Faith Christian Fellowship. The group selected Rev. William Ward to serve as moderator to formally establish the church and select a pastor. The meeting was called to order by Rev. Ward and the body voted to organize itself as a non-denominational Christian church and agreed to call Reverend Dr. Ralph E. Howard as its first pastor.
Charter members present were: Michael and Cousandra Carter, Deacon James and Alice Cato, Byron and Joy Easley, Glen and Jackie Forrester, Jerome Gibson, Reverend Dr. Ralph and Deborah Howard, Tony and Sonya Honeycutt, Minister Delmar Johnson, Mark and Cheryl Latimer, Nedra Marks, Roshunda Mitchell, Ralph Palmer, Minister Ollie and Lisa Wright, Reverend William Ward.
Over several more meetings came the selection of three trustees- Byron Easley, Tony Honeycutt, and Michael Carter; a Church Clerk- Cousandra Carter, a Church Treasurer- Tony Honeycutt and a Finance Secretary Jackie Forester.
The first bible study was held on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 on the topic “What Is Faith”. On Wednesday, May 24, 2006 we moved to the Ramada Inn at 2436 Mahogany Way, Pittsburg. Shortly thereafter God opened the door to a new place of worship and on June 4, 2006 we stepped in faith into our first place of worship at 415 Railroad Avenue, Pittsburg, in a rented upstairs hall. The Holy Spirit blessed us with an upper room worship experience; over 118 people were in attendance and 64 people united with the church in membership. We remained faithful to God’s Word and through God’s favor the church continued to grow and develop in ministry. On July 2, 2006 we moved to Black Diamond Middle School Theater Auditorium at 4730 Sterling Hill Drive, Antioch where in less than two months we were moving to procure our own building, to achieve the four fold vision God had given our pastor: to DEVELOP our gifts, to TEACH the living word, to REACH the unsaved, and to BUILD God’s kingdom.
We never stopped praising God even during our wilderness period, but we kept our eyes on the promise that we knew God had ordained for this ministry. On April 16, 2007 God again smiled on the Seed of Faith Christian Fellowship as we moved to a new permanent facility at 1251 California Avenue, Pittsburg. The congregation marched into the building led by Pastor and First Lady Howard singing “We’ve Come This Far by Faith”. What a glorious day this was, to see the smiling faces of joy and praise for our Lord and Savior.
From our humble beginning with unwavering faith we have witnessed the providence of God as he has opened doors and closed others to order our steps to reach our destiny, to the glory of God. We praise Him for the inspiration that He has given our Pastor and for the blessings that are yet to come.
